Meet Jon Robinson
Jon Robinson was born in Ypsilanti, Michigan. Ypsilanti is a small suburban town known for its historical place in the storied beginnings of the auto industry. It also holds a place in the legacy of WWII, as the B-24 bomber made its way out of the Willow Run bomber plant right “Up the street” from where Jon grew up.
Robinson’s first creative writings came in the form of songs. “I always loved music. Since I was a child I have always written songs and dabbled in the business of music.” However, with coming from such a manufacturing dominated landscape, it was hard to conceive that he would ever be able to make a living on his writings alone. “I really wanted to believe it, and though I had my hand in some musical situations that prospered, I still could not let go of the steady paycheck that came from an eight, to twelve hour workday.”
Robinson had to no choice but to begin relying on his mental capabilities however after a tragic automobile accident left him with constant pain and a permanent hip injury in 1996. With this, he decided to pursue his undergraduate degree at Cleary University in Ann Arbor, Michigan. At present he is enrolled at Eastern Michigan University’s business school in pursuit of his M.B.A. During his graduate studies Robinson has kept busy; holding a full-time job, and running three entrepreneurial businesses. One of these enterprises, ReAL New Media, happens to be the creative home of “Poppy the Doggy.”
Poppy the Doggy will be Robinson’s first (Self) published title. “I believe in my own creative processes. Meaning, I don’t need a publishing house to tell me if my work is good enough. I have enough of an understanding of what I am trying to communicate to my reader(s) to know whether or not the product is viable.”
“I remember back to grade school when I was first introduced to “The Lion, the Witch, &, the Wardrobe,” by C.S. Lewis. Even though it was presented to me as a cartoon, it had such an impact that I ventured out to find the actual novel. Upon doing so I learned that is was part of a series! I read each book of course, and they have been dear to me every since.” I can’t wait to be able to introduce my children to these, and other books that made my childhood special.”
“I want Poppy the Doggy to be one of those special series of books that will make a lasting impression on a child. Poppy was brought into our family under very personal circumstances. The family that we dedicate the initial book to, truly gave me and my wife (Verona, who supplies the photos for the initial book, and with it, is considered a co-author), a gift that we could never repay them for.”
Jonathan Robinson lives with his wife Verona, and their one child (Poppy). They currently reside in Ypsilanti, Michigan, but will soon divide time between Ypsilanti, and Scottsdale, Arizona. When not writing, Jonathan works on his other businesses, travels, which he avidly enjoys, and spends time with friends and family.
Though Robinson’s writing career has begun with the Poppy the Doggy series, don’t expect just children’s book as the extent of his literary works. “I started with Poppy because she was a subject that was near and dear to me. With not having children of my own, I decided to give this gift to the children of the world. Through these books they will be able to share in the love and affection she gives to us, along with the smiles and laughter she provides. Everyone who has ever come in contact with her goes away with a smile on their face. And that’s what we hope these books will do for you as well as your children.”
